I'm sure you have packed away all your best clothes, favourite shoes, laptop, tablet and teddy bear but there might be one or two things that you have forgot to squirrel away that will make your life one hundred millions times easier. We decided to list one for four of the major parts of your life.
Home - An Extension Cable
If you have yet to experience student accommodation (like I have) then you will not know the terrors of trying to find a electrical socket. Whoever was the architect on my student flat went in the design stage with two main concepts that they wanted to explore.
1. Placing power sources in the most obscure places you can think of i.e behind the only place in a room where you can fit a bed in.
2. The minimalistic idea of putting one single socket in a flat that bed 3.
I am not joking so in this day in age when you want to charge your laptop, straighten your hair, listen to music and make sure your phone is full for the night out ahead you will be thoroughly thrilled with the four gang you stole off your Dad.
Kitchen - A Big Mug
Most of the time in student accommodation your plates, knives, forks and spoons will be sitting in the drawers and cupboards waiting patiently on your arrival.
So however will the smallest tea cups you have ever seen in your life. I suggest that on the way out of your childhood home you grab the biggest mug you can wrap your arms around.
You will thank me when you come in after a long day of sleeping through lectures to come home to a swimming pool full of tea rather than the thimble full you will have to drink twelve of if you dont bring an XL mug. Another bonus is during the cold winter month you will be able to fit two cans of soup in that bad boy!
Social Life - Fancy Dress
I guarantee you within the first two weeks of being a student you will be invited to a fancy dress night or you will be asked along to a pub crawl where you and your fiends have to dress like maniacs. For some reasons students and student unions are obsessed with the idea of getting loads of drunk people in silly costumes in a room together and it isnt going to change any time soon.
So in saying that unless you want to fork out a whack of money on costumes or cut two eye holes in a bed sheet for the budget option I suggest you have a rummage in the attic to see if you have any odds and ends you can use to throw together a last minute costume. Spend your money in the pub, not dressing up like a Womble.
School - Pen Drive
Of course you brought a pen to your first day at University or College but did you think to bring a pen drive. It will be the handiest thing on your keychain, trust me. You will not believe how many times you will have to break it out to move a file from one computer to the other, or to take home your essay to finish. I know, I know, in this day and age you can always email it to yourself but University upload speeds can be horrendously slow and if you want to catch the train or make it up the road in time for Countdown then a USB Drive is your best option!
